So right out of the gate, I had to stop myself and start over with my Once a Day for a Year Challenge! It really wasn’t my fault though. My trusty MacBook Pro died a horrible death. Granted, it was eight years old (which is like 143 in computer years, I’m pretty sure) but I was really hoping that the Mac Men might have some way of resurrecting it for just one more year. Alas…’twas not to be. So I am now the proud owner of a new MacBook Air, and so far I am thrilled with her. Her name is Annabelle.
Not sure if this should be Day Four or Day One again…either way, I’m excited to share a new book with you that came across my desk while I was waiting for Annabelle to show up.
Adored: 365 Devotions for Young Women.
My girls are grown now, but when they were younger finding a devotional that was geared toward them was usually a challenge. I wanted something that they could do in about 15 minutes, that wouldn’t feel like a “chore”, and one that wouldn’t feel condescending or out of touch.
Several weeks ago, I was given a copy of Adored: 365 Devotions for Young Women. Right away I was drawn to the cover–it was classy without being “cutesy”, and it drew me in.
The devotions are short and each day draws upon an emotion or issue that a young woman might be facing, and includes a relevant Bible verse and space to jot down your thoughts. I feel like this is probably best suited for girls who are between the ages of 10-15. Older girls will be ready for more in-depth study and I think many of the issues would not be something that girls younger than 10 would be dealing with. All in all, I was impressed with the quality of the devotions—they are not “trite” or patronizing but require a bit of thought to fully engage.
While I did not read all of the devotions, I did read a good cross section of them, and found all of them to be equally engaging and relevant. This would make a lovely Christmas gift for a young woman who is ready for a devotional that she can do by herself!
